Arcangues

This setting at Arcangues Golf Course provides beautiful views over the Basque countryside and the Pyrenees, and there is a nice balance between woodland holes and holes through open country.
This setting at Arcangues Golf Course provides beautiful views over the Basque countryside and the Pyrenees, and there is a nice balance between woodland holes and holes through open country
As it is often the case with Ronald Fream's courses, the bunkers and greens have been given a lot of careful thought, which is only logical for a course as short as this.

Biarritz Le Phare

A semi links style course, Biarritz Le Phare is situated overlooking the town and bay of Biarritz.
The course is an old established golf club, opened in 1887. The greens are usually fast and undulating. Not the longest of courses but accuracy is the key on the tight fairways.
'Le Phare’ could be considered a little antiquated, but it bears the irreplaceable tradition of the origins of golf in the Basque country, and can be played by golfers of all levels.

Chantaco

Chantaco is one of the most celebrated courses on the Basque coast thanks to its delightful charm, atmosphere and sporting tradition, all nurtured by the Lacoste family.
Although rather hilly, the most tiring thing about Chantaco golf course is not the walking but trying to avoid the traps.
It gives the impression of a quiet day's golfing, but even the most ambitious golfer will find it more than a handful.

Chiberta

Chiberta is one of the great French examples of a links course, designed by the legendary Tom Simpson. This course is one of the most rewarding courses in France, and provides a wonderful day of golf to all who play on it.
Chiberta is an international class golf course rated amongst the top ten in France.
With 6 holes along the ocean front, and 12 in the pine forest, this course has not two holes alike, and its sandy soil allows the visitor to play in excellent conditions all year long.
When the ocean winds blow at Chiberta, it is essential to know how to work the ball (the priority is to keep the ball in play as on the famous Scottish links), and players with a tight short game will probably emerge.

Hossegor

Hossegor is one of the great classics on the Basque coast with a layout reminiscent of traditional British inland courses where the hazards are primarily trees and bunkers.
Built by Jim Morrison this classic golf course complete with superb old-style clubhouse, boasts the best golfing restaurant in the region.
The course is flat and plays beautifully all year thanks to the sandy sub-soil. Clearly visible hazards, a variety of neat greens make this a fine test of golfing ability and strategy. This is a course that conceals its real difficulties beneath a cheerful exterior.
An excellent venue for tournaments and all dedicated golfers, where it is always fun to get back to the long-neglected details of golf.

Le Nivelle

La Nivelle golf course is approaching its centurion birthday and still remains rated as one of Europe's very best.
The course is short, however achieving par is extremely tough and the small greens make it a challenge for even the very best golfer.
The magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees from the fairways are a timeless attribute to this lovely course.
This is without doubt a course you will remember playing for the rest of your life.

Makila Bassussary

Rocky Roquemore has produced an American style layout set beneath the Pyrenees. Makila is a recent creation 5 miles southeast of Biarritz, with a variety of holes and hazards ranging from mountainside holes to lower-level holes edged with water hazards.
This is a pretty hilly golf course (3 holes in particular) but it would have been difficult to do otherwise in this superb region. If you are not in top shape, take a buggy as this course plays 6200 metres from the back tees and so is a good test for the better player, but the middle tees are perfect for the mid-handicapper.

Moliets

Moliets Golf Club is located 30 miles north of Barritz and eight miles north of Seignosse. The course welcomes you to a typical Robert Trent Jones design, where detail to style and the technical and strategic challenges reflect an in-depth knowledge of golf.
funnily enough often more conducive to error. The famous jagged bunkers are a remarkable form of defence for the greens, three of which are virtually blind, and the putting surfaces are neatly but never excessively contoured.
The closely cropped fairways at Moliets Golf Course help speed up the game and the sandy sub-soil keeps the course easily playable all year round.
