Golf du Médoc

Golf du Médoc is one of the most renowned golfing destinations in France, thanks to its two internationally renowned championship courses, laid out over the famous terrain of the wine-producing area around Bordeaux. Many famous names have graced the courses; Retief Goosen triumphed at the 1999 French Open, while notable visitors to this ‘Hidden Gem’ include Ballesteros, Crenshaw, Olazabal, Garcia, Woosnam, Montgomerie and more.

Chateaux Course
The Chateaux Course is a demanding par-71 stretch, which, when played from the championship markers, reaches 6,907 yards. American designer Bill Corre took much of his influence from the UK and Ireland’s links courses, and as such the fairways at the Chateaux are lined with gorse, heather and broom. The stunning course is often affected by the stern Atlantic breezes, making it a formidable proposition, but one that will certainly be enjoyable.

Vignes Course
The 6,802 yard Vignes is Golf du Médoc’s second course, but it is certainly not inferior. Designed by Canadian Rod Whitman, the Vignes is distinctly different in character than the Chateaux, as it carves through the towering pines, with more of a parkland accent. The par-5s are particularly challenging, and Whitman’s most notable legacy is his strategic placement of telling bunkers, which will only be safely negotiated by the most prudent player.

If you’re game’s not up to scratch, the golf complex has a range with 16 covered bays and up to 40 uncovered grass bays that are the perfect place to pound some balls.
