Robert Trent Jones Senior is perhaps best known on the Costa Del Sol for his masterful creation at Real Club De Golf Sotogrande, which remains to this day in continental Europe’s top 5, but less heralded is his outstanding project at Las Brisas, which was completed in 1968.
Any golfer fortunate enough to have experienced Sotogrande will understand what Trent Jones is all about; the subtlety and careful manipulation with which he creates holes demands complete control of every facet of the game. Las Brisas requires both power and finesse, as the course is a full championship length, but the raised greens necessitate a particularly deft touch.
Las Brisas has hosted some of world golf’s most illustrious professional tournaments, most notably the World Cup and the Spanish Open, which was won by Nick Faldo in 1987. While the club has for some time been very private, it is becoming increasingly accessible to the public, so make the little known Las Brisas gem part of your next golf tour on the Costa Del Sol.
