This is one of the finest golfing resorts in Scandinavia, with a classic links golf course as well as a parkland course by celebrated designer Kyle Phillips, 16 elegantly furnished suites, restaurant, bar and beautifully finished changing facilities.
Links Course PGA National's courses are designed by Kyle Phillips, one of the most renowned architects in golf today and the man behind many modern classics such as Kingsbarns in Scotland and The Grove near London. The Links Course is an 18-hole championship course boasting classic links features such as large undulating greens and numerous small, deep pot bunkers. The greens were built on a bed of sand and then shaped to imitate the soft sand dunes of a typical Scottish links course. The grass specification for the course is a fescue blend, providing the playing characteristics typical to links courses. This layout undulates m ore than most classic links do, however, and the demanding and exciting golf experience on offer here includes lots of course management, especially to avoid the small stream which runs along seven of the holes. Lakes Course Right from the first hole, the Lakes Course is a terrific test of golf and thoroughly examines the best of quality players. There is a large, purpose-built lake bordering holes 9, 17 and 18 , which provides a daunting test at crucial times in the game. While the Lakes Course has a similar number of bunkers to the Links courses (74) the area they cover here is almost three times as much, demonstrating the different design concepts of the two courses. While there are huge bunkers to be avoided on the Lakes Course, it is the water hazards that can prove the most penal. This is especially true at the last two holes. You have to fly the ball 170 yards over the water at the 17th, while the 550-yard 18th has a lake all the way up the left side. It's like a beautiful piece of Florida in the heart of Sweden! Short Course There's also a great nine-hole short course here consisting of nine full-length par-3 holes that have the same build quality as the Link and Lakes Courses' holes. This is also designed by Kyle Phillips and is perfect for those who want to have a quick round or to practise their short game and iron play. |
