Alabama is home to one of the world’s most ambitious and expansive golf projects – The Robert Trent Jones Trail.
In the late 1980s local businessman Dr David Bonner had the idea of creating an enormous network of world-class golf courses through his beautifully landscaped home of Alabama. Dr Bonner persuaded premier architect Robert Trent Jones Snr out of semi-retirement and together they embarked on creating one of the biggest and best stretches of championship golf found anywhere in the world. The collection of 468 holes is set on 11 different sites across Alabama and offers incredible value for money, with The Wall Street Journal saying it "May be the biggest bargain in the country". The proximity of the courses to the main route ways makes your journey through the trail a simple one. There are many different ways to approach the trail – travel straight down the I-65 interstate and you will pick up 6 of the courses. Others choose to loop from Atlanta to Anniston, Birmingham, Montgomery and Auburn. Each way is within a 90 minute drive from Atlanta and its international airport. |
