Torre Course at Terras da Comporta
Torre Golf Course is Sergio Garcia’s bold new European masterpiece. Set within the stunning natural surroundings of Portugal’s Alentejo coast on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, Torre is the much anticipated second layout at Terras da Comporta. This resort already boasts the award-winning Dunas Course and is quickly becoming a must visit for golfers across the globe. This is more than just a round of golf, this is a moment that will live long in the memory.
Torre makes exceptional use of the region’s free-draining soil and native landscape. The routing guides players through a tapestry of pine forest, sand-scrub clearings and low-lying valleys that have been carefully preserved to avoid unnecessary earthworks. Garcia’s philosophy was clear: let the land lead the design. As such, Torre feels natural, authentic and perfectly balanced.
The course plays to nearly 7,200 yards from the back tees but offers multiple teeing options to suit all levels. Its standout characteristic is the way it demands strategic thought rather than raw distance. Fairways are generous but rarely forgiving — a misplaced drive can leave a poor angle into the cleverly contoured greens, which are compact, often raised and well-defended by deep bunkering or sandy waste areas. It's a style of golf that rewards the cerebral and punishes the careless — exactly the kind of test Garcia relished as a player.
The Valderrama influence is clear throughout. Holes like the par-4 4th and the par-3 15th pay homage to Spanish course architecture, requiring precise distance control and creative short-game flair. The par-5 9th is a true standout — a sweeping dogleg framed by umbrella pines with a green complex that tempts the bold. Meanwhile, the closing stretch from 16 through 18 is both dramatic and photogenic, providing the perfect crescendo to the round.
