Quinta Do Lago North Course

The Quinta Do Lago North Course, in the Algarve, Portugal, is one that all abilities can enjoy, while still proving to be a challenge. The course has the reputation of being one of the best golfing destinations in the world, connected to the Quinta Do Lago Resort, which was awarded ‘Europe’s Best Golf Destination’ at the World Golf Awards in 2015 and 2016 as well as Golf Digest ‘Best International Resort’ in 2016 and 2017.

€9 million was invested on the North Course in 2014, implementing new innovative technology to ensure that the course was more environmentally friendly and even more aesthetically pleasing. Golfers of all abilities will not only be able to enjoy the challenge of the course but enjoy the visual aspects that the North Course is known for, with wonderful trees, white sanded bunkers and beautiful water hazards featuring throughout.

Totalling at 6,529 yards from the Yellows, it is not a particularly long course. Despite this, in terms of quality, you are spoilt for choice. It was named ‘The Best New Golf Course in Europe’ at the World Golf Awards in 2014, and it is evident why.

Signature Hole – No. 12: Par 4, 394 yards (White Tees)

The highlight of the North course is the 12th. Whilst also being the most visually appealing hole on the course, it is one of the most challenging. The hole doglegs its way around an ominous lake, and even the best of drives leaves a treacherous approach shot to a large undulating green.

Quinta Do Lago South

The Quinta Do Lago South Course, situated in the Algarve region of Portugal, is arguably the most popular course at the resort, due to it hosting the European Tour on 8 occasions.

This is the one that golfers want to play most largely in part to the course hosting the European Tour on eight occasions. The South Course is nestled perfectly in the Ria Formosa nature reserve, providing golfers with a great golfing experience, with beautiful views and picturesque settings.

A number of holes will test you on this course, with the 8th, 10th and 18th holes certainly deserving of a mention, proving themselves as challenging par 4 holes for even the lowest handicapped players. But the two holes that prove most testing are the 15th and 17th. The 15th is a 218 yard par 3 that requires a lengthy tee shot to carry over a lake onto a well guarded green surrounded by pine trees.

The 17th hole is a par 5 that proves to be worth the wait, as a spectacular view with numerous pine trees lining the hole, ensures a fine finish. An accurate tee shot is vital around the dogleg to avoid the rough, possibly setting up an approach shot to the green. There is no room for error on this hole as anything left or right will most definitely leave you in some trouble. It is not surprising that the South course at Quinta do Lago is ranked as one of the best courses in Portugal.
